JUBILANT BHARTIA FOUNDATION MEDICAL CENTRE & MOBILE DISPENSARY SERVICES

The community healthcare initiative run by the Jubilant Bhartia Foundation provides public healthcare services in an affordable, accessible, and equitable manner across 18 villages (Vilayat, Vorasamni, Argama, Ankot, Rahad, Saladara, Vachchnad, Dayadara, Tralsa, Kothi, Kelod, Vahalu, Sarnar, Vasi, Kalla, Cholad, Bhersam, Juned) around our plant premises. Since its inception, these services have helped strengthen nearby basic healthcare facilities and empower the residents. The underprivileged patients who visit the medical centre and mobile dispensary receive proper medical evaluation, medicines, day-care services, as well as guidance and education on integrating healthier habits into their everyday lives. In May, JBF Medical Centre and Mobile Dispensary Services attended treated 1385 patients including diagnosis and medication.

WORLD NO-TOBACCO DAY

On World No-Tobacco Day, the JBF Bharuch team organised a ‘No to Tobacco’ badge distribution activity. This effort aimed to ensure that every employee was made aware on the significance of the day and the positive impact of saying no to the consumption of tobacco.

Simultaneously, an awareness session highlighting the harmful effects of tobacco was conducted, with 86 employees and contractual workers. Dr. Shailesh Nakum, Deputy Manager - CSR at JBF led the session, enlightening attendees about the adverse effects of tobacco, consequences and treatment.

Further, to augment the awareness efforts, a poster competition was also organised with active involvement from employees, employees of Innovesource, apprentices, interns and contractual workers. Total 26 entries were received, each delivering a powerful message against tobacco usage. From these, top 10 posters were awarded as an acknowledgement of their effort in conveying the sensitive and critical message in a creative manner.

EDUCATION

MUSKAAN EDULAB - FELLOW SELECTION PROCESS

JBF Bharuch launched the Muskaan Edu Lab Project in Government Primary Schools across Bharuch district in the month of June, coinciding with the re-opening of schools for the new academic year 2024-2025. Through this innovative initiative, JBF aims to establish computer labs in the schools equipped with MindSpark, an educational software that will significantly support student learning. The software will customise Maths and Language lesson plans based on students' IQ levels, assessed through evaluations. By tailoring the curriculum in this way, the initiative seeks to optimise the learning journey for primary school children.

The overarching goal of the Muskaan Edu Lab is to create a comprehensive learning environment that ensures students achieve essential educational milestones during their primary education phase. Through these efforts, JBF envisions a brighter future for the young learners of Bharuch district.

In addition, under this project, JBF will deploy Muskaan Fellows in the schools to serve as Edu Lab Project Teachers, conducting regular sessions with students and working closely with teachers and parents to enhance the digital learning experience. In May 2024, the screening and selection process for Muskaan Fellows was completed, resulting in the selection of three fellows. These individuals will play a crucial role in implementing the initiative and fostering a supportive learning environment for the students.

MUSKAAN FELLOWSHIP - LEARNING RETREAT III

The Muskaan Fellowship is a yearlong mentorship and training program tailored for rural adolescents, aiming to nurture leadership traits, guide participants towards a goal-oriented future and foster active citizenship. This project empowers these young individuals to evolve into Master Trainers, acting as catalysts for positive change in our society. These Master Trainers will be tasked to implement comprehensive value education and 21st-century life skills programs in Government Primary Schools, which will address critical topics like Gender Empowerment, Leadership and Goal-Oriented Mentoring.

In the fiscal year 2023-2024, a diverse cohort of young individuals from various communities was enrolled in the fellowship program. This month, the third Learning Retreat for the Muskaan Fellowship 2023-24 was conducted. This retreat focused on enhancing self-awareness, inspiring self-expression and cultivating self-confidence through the art of storytelling.

LIVELIHOOD

FARMERS EMPOWERMENT PROJECT

The Farmers Empowerment Project, a collaboration between the JBF Bharuch and FarmBridge Foundation, is dedicated to promote income generation in agriculture through value addition. This project's primary objectives include educating farmers about diverse farming techniques, offering livelihood support and fostering innovative agricultural practices to empower farmers.

The program is presently active across 10 villages namely - Vilayat, Derol, Bhersam, Dayadara, Vahalu, Argama, Saladara, Rahad, Vahiyal, and Suthrel.

This month's Farmers Empowerment Project meetings focused on introducing new Toor dal varieties GT105 and GT106, distributing Hydrogel to farmers and conducting field visits to white sesame seed farms. These initiatives aim to empower farming communities by imparting valuable knowledge and practical skills.

PROJECT NAYEE DISHA

JBF in collaboration with the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (CED), a Government of Gujarat organisation, has been running two Skill Upgradation Centres (SUC) at Bharuch and Vilayat since 2019, providing skill-based training to local community members with the intention of increasing employability in the community.

At the Skill Upgradation Centres in Vilayat and Bharuch under the JBF, a diverse range of skill training courses is offered. These courses cover various skill sets such as sewing machine operator (SMO), beauty related courses, computer operator and programming assistant (COPA), electrician, mehendi art and basic computer-tally. The courses are designed to facilitate sustainable livelihood generation for individuals within the community.

MUSKAAN FELLOWSHIP: LEARNING RETREAT III

The 2023-24 Muskaan Fellowship cohort, comprised of 35 fellows in Gajraula, recently participated in a learning retreat III held on May 16. This retreat focused on leadership skill development, specifically geared towards empowering them to work with Primary and Upper Primary Government School students in Gajraula (UP) through workshops facilitated by JBF CSR team - Vikash Kumar (Manager, JBF) and Jaya Eti Minz (Assistant Manager, JBF), Bundi Ji and Naveen Ji (Field Staff, JBF).

Empowering the next generation of leaders, Project Muskaan Fellowship is a youth development initiative by the JBF that cultivates well-rounded individuals by fostering a deep understanding of community issues and equipping them with the necessary leadership skills.

HEALTH- CARE

JBF MEDICAL CENTRE MAKING PRIMARY HEALTHCARE ACCESSIBLE

The Jubilant Bhartia Foundation Medical Centre (JBFMC) in Gajraula offers affordable primary healthcare services that can be availed at only ₹10 each patient. The center boasts of a wide range of diagnostic services at minimal costs.

JBFMC collaborated with Ujala Cygnus and Jagannath Charitable Trust to provide referral services for specialised OPDs in oncology and orthopedics. Additionally, a mobile dispensary unit provides essential healthcare and subsidised medicines to the remote areas of Amroha.

The Vitor Project, in partnership with Sewa at Home, trains village-level entrepreneurs for basic health services like blood pressure measurement and blood sugar level checks. These entrepreneurs then provide these services in their own villages at minimal prices and bringing access to basic healthcare at the doorstep. In addition to this, JBFMC recently inaugurated a fully functional eye care center within its premises, further expanding its offerings.

In May, JBFMC served a significant number of patients:

  • OPD: 1833 patients;
  • Mobile Dispensary Unit: 1085 patients across 8 villages;
  • Special OPDs: 122 patients;
  • Dental OPD: 78 patients;
  • Eye Care Center: 99 patients;
  • Vitor Entrepreneurs: 415 patients.

These figures highlight the JBFMC's commitment to providing accessible and affordable healthcare to the Gajraula community.

RURAL DEVELOPMENT

STREET LIGHT DISTRIBUTION

Responding to the community requests for improving road lights and providing a stronger sense of security, JBF distributed streetlights in three panchayats -Solapur gosia, Bagarpur, Tigria Bhor in Gajurala. This initiative aims to make streets safer for child and women and keep a check on any kind of suspicious or criminal activity.

MOVIE SCREENING AT SULTANPUR MOLVI, GAJRAULA

On May 30, the JBF collaborated with Frontier Market to host a special village screening of the acclaimed film ‘Kicking Balls’ directed by Academy Awards winner Guneet Monga Kapoor, in Sultanpur Molvi, Gajraula.

The movie tells an inspiring story of young girls from Ajmer and their remarkable display of courage and fearlessness in their fight against child marriage. The film chronicles their journey as they forge a path towards a brighter future.

The event was graced by the presence of Ms. Guneet Monga Kapoor herself along with Ms. Ajaita Shah, Founder of Frontier Market. The event was further enriched by the participation of Ms. Parineeta Singh (wife of the Rural Development Secretary, Government of India), local dignitaries including the SDM, CDO and BDO, representatives from the Amazon India team, Sikhya Entertainment, and Ms. Charu Malhotra from Primus Partner.

The local audience was immersed in this touching story. The screening was a resounding success.

LIVELIHOOD

INAUGURATION OF DIDI KI DUKAAN

JBF Gajraula has started a project titled ‘Didi Ki Dukaan’ in partnership with the organisation B-Able. The objective of the project is to intervene through economic and social assistance for women in rural areas to start their own shops and become micro entrepreneurs.

The inauguration of two Didi ki Dukaan was organised in Sultanpur Mollavi and Alampur by village level entrepreneur named Reena, Pooja. JBF team Vikash Kumar (Manager, JBF) and Jaya Eti Minz (Assistant Manager, JBF) along with the B-Able Foundation team were present during the inauguration ceremony.

The enthusiasm was evident on the face of women entrepreneurs. For future, the discussions happened regarding sourcing of local products.
