Humans of Surge - introducing the people behind the transformation…
In this edition of Humans of Surge – we bring to you Vikas Vaman Chavan.
Vikas works as Senior Engineer in Instrumentation at our Nira plant and has 4+ years of experience at Jubilant Ingrevia.
Vikas is one of the many young engineers working at our plants who are passionate about their work and keen on adopting digital ways of working.
“Digital technology helps operators as well as process engineers with a detailed picture of operating conditions and status of their measuring equipment well within time. It can also give early predictions of possible failures to prevent any downtimes.” says Vikas.
Vikas and his team have successfully delivered the first win of Project Surge in manufacturing with INR 1 Cr savings. The objective of the initiative was to improve the yield of AC2O-II by 1% and improve acetic acid norms at the plant. A detailed analysis of historical data was done by a team of data scientists to understand trends and optimum ranges of operation. These insights were combined with the expertise of our plant teams at each stage to come up with the best possible NH3 feed, acid super heater temperature, input acid feed rate etc. for maximum yield.
“This project is just the first step. The ability to connect devices and instruments digitally to wider platforms will completely change the way we approach maintenance and process optimization. It can help reduce unnecessary maintenance to a great extent.” says Vikas.
Talking about what inspires him, Vikas says, “Curiosity to find new solutions to problems motivates me. To truly adopt a digital mind-set, one must understand the need to abandon long standing processes which are time consuming and inefficient compared to other efficient solutions now available to us.”
